When we hear the word ‘Detox’ most of us think hunger, food deprivation, kale juices and colonics.
On average we consume close to 1 tonne of food annually, thats 1000kg of food! It has also been proven that us Aussies eat takeaway foods up to twice a week! Twice a week.. Thats a large portion of our food intake!
It gets worse.. according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics in 2013-2014 for every person over the age of 15 there were 9.7 litres of pure alcohol consumed, and as a standard drink consists of 12.5mL of pure alcohol, this is equivalent to an average of 2.1 standard drinks everyday per person over the age of 15. So if you think about it this way you can see why it is so important to give your vital organs, such as your liver, who do all the hard work in processing all that alcohol and sugar a well earned break.
Can you imagine how exhausted your intestines must be, as it’s primary function is to extract and absorb all the nutrients (whatever it can find) from everything you put into your body before discarding it as waste. Do you ever feel constipated? Get a sluggish feeling in your tummy every now and then?
Ignore what you think you may know.. because those symptoms are not normal under any circumstance.. So go ahead, get rid of them, and reboot your body by giving detoxing a go! In the scheme of things, a 14 day detox is only 4% of the entire year of eating!
We tried it here at enigma7 early this year and absolutely loved the results. We even got rid of a few of those unwanted kilos! We felt revitalised afterwards. Some of us had never done a detox before and were worried about having to give up all the delicious flavoursome foods we so enjoyed eating! but we didn’t once feel deprived.. Well maybe except having to give up the morning caffeine rituals. It wasn’t easy, it takes a lot of strength and willpower. But it definitely paid off.
Are you in need of a detox? If you suffer from any of the following then you should definitely consider taking the plunge.
1. Do you suffer from FLC: Feel Like Crap Syndrome?
2. Are you struggling to lose some of those unwanted kilos? A detox is a great kick start to turning your life around in a positive way. It is a great motivator as it provides you with the blank slate you need to really start making healthier lifestyle choices and once its over you will have the energy to start waking up early to go for a walk, or even head to the gym.
3. Do you have little to no control over your sugar and carb cravings?
4. Have you never detoxed? It was the first time for some of us here, but it helped us to realise that our perceived normal state of being is not our optimal state of being! It was a big eye opened to find out how we really should feel from the inside out!
